Description

The old woman lives alone in her council flat in London, surrounded by memories of her past life. Whilst at the library one day she chances on a wartime photograph of Land Girls in which she recognises herself and others. Resolved to get in touch again, she prepares for a reunion. She writes invitations, organises a date, buys food, has her hair done, cleans her party frock, but they don’t turn up, and disappointment leads to disaster … We are left with the question ‘Why’? and the demand ‘What can we do?’. Good discussion starter on old age and loneliness.

Made in 1983 this film reflects the cultural attitudes of the country and language of the time it was made. The issues raised are timeless. The film quality may not be to modern standards.
