Description

On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s historic voyage, native people met in Ecuador to participate in the First Continental Conference of Indigenous People. Individuals from different groups speak about the devastation of their cultures resulting from the European invasion, contemporary struggles over land and human rights, the importance of reviving spiritual traditions, and the need to alert the world to the environmental crises threatening the survival of the planet.
Made in 1985 this film reflects the cultural attitudes and language of the time it was made. The issues raised are timeless. The film quality may not be to modern standards.
