Description

A group of young people from a school in the Midlands decided the themes of this film by Nigel Evans, which explores three main topics: the experience of education, the impact of a wider culture outside the school and language and freedom. Starting with a look at the teaching methods in a primary school, with its emphasis on stimulating curiosity, they then ask why so many thousands of bright eleven-year-olds are silenced and dulled by secondary education. They also explore the reasons why their school is one of the best -‘.. an open, enquiring school, a talking school which positively encourages children to be open minded and critical and to think about the values of society’. (Times Ed.) The central issue of language is also discussed.
