Description

This film, (banned in South Africa at th time of its release), produced by Hugo Cassirer and the internationally acclaimed novelist Nadine Gordimer, picks on the theme – how should a Christian, or any person of conscience, respond to institutionlised social violence and injustice in South Africa. Shows the answer of one “coloured” (mixed race) Dutch Reformed Minister who challenged this. It traces Allan Boesak’s rise to become head of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches. The alliance subsequently declared apartheid a heresay – shocking South Africa, In this film, Boesk speaks about the use of violence by liberation movements and by the state, and about the tacit support of South Africa by Western democracies and of the leverage of such actions as the international sports boycott against South Africa. An interesting historical perspective from 30 years ago.
