Description
Looks at the pressures on older schoolchildren. It is not generally recognised that these pressures can lead them to attempt suicide. Caroline, with a history of stealing from her parents, and frightened of what might happen to her, took an overdose. Tony, after a row with the only person he could talk to – his girlfriend – did the same. Many others take the same desperate course. A director of the Suicide Prevention Centre in the Los Angeles area visits schools and talks face to face with the kids about these problems. The children like this bringing out into the open of their problems, but it doesn’t happen like this in many places.
This film is of historical interest and reflects the cultural attitudes, medical procedures and language of the time it was made. But the issues raised are timeless.
